Effective 13 October 2026
Privacy Policy
SILK is personal by design. This policy explains what we collect, why we use it, and the choices you have.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller for SILK is:
- SILK Ltd
- Registered address to be confirmed
- support@silk.app
Information you give SILK
Depending on the features you use, we collect and store:
- Your account details, display name, city and preferences.
- Wardrobe details, including item names, attributes, wear history and photos.
- Skincare products, routines, skin concerns, skin logs and skin or product photos.
- Menstrual cycle dates, cycle length, period length and symptoms such as pain.
- Mood, energy, sleep, water and step check-ins.
- Questions and chat history you choose to share with the SILK assistant.
How we use your information
We use this information to provide your daily briefing, organise your wardrobe and skincare shelf, track patterns, generate recommendations, maintain your account, process subscriptions, prevent abuse and improve reliability.
Legal basis for processing
Cycle, symptom, mood, sleep and skin data are health data, a special category of personal data. We process them only on the basis of your explicit consent (UK/EU GDPR Article 9(2)(a)), given when you create your account and, for AI features, separately before any of this data is first shared with our AI provider. You can withdraw AI consent at any time in Settings; AI features then switch off and the rest of SILK keeps working.
Other account, wardrobe and billing data are processed to perform our contract with you, and for our legitimate interests in keeping SILK secure and reliable. Payment records are kept to meet legal obligations.
AI processing
SILK sends relevant information as text context to a third-party AI gateway, Lovable AI, which uses Google Gemini models to generate styling and skin guidance. This text may include wardrobe item names and attributes, skincare product details, menstrual-cycle phase, skin logs, mood and other check-in information relevant to your request.
Raw photos are never sent to the AI gateway. Photos are stored privately and SILK uses only their saved text descriptions as AI context.
Services that help us operate SILK
We use service providers for secure hosting, account access and photo storage; Lovable AI and Google Gemini for AI responses; Paddle for payments and subscription management; Google for optional Google sign-in; and Sentry for error monitoring when configured. They process data only as needed to provide their services, subject to their own privacy terms.
How long we keep data
- Account, wardrobe, skincare, cycle, check-in and photo data: while your account is active, and deleted immediately when you delete your account.
- Chat history with the assistant: while your account is active; the most recent messages are used as context.
- AI requests: sent for a single response and not stored by SILK beyond your saved chat history.
- Error logs: up to 90 days.
- Payment and invoice records: kept by Paddle for up to 7 years to meet tax and accounting law.
- Backups: overwritten within 30 days of deletion.
We use access controls and encrypted connections, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data-protection law (GDPR) you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data — most of it directly in SILK.
- Export your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
- Delete your account and data at any time from Settings → Delete my account (this also cancels an active subscription).
- Restrict or object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing.
- Complain to your local data-protection authority, such as the UK ICO.
To access or export your data, email support@silk.app. We reply within one month.
International data transfers
Our hosting, AI and payment providers may process data outside the UK or EEA, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum) so your data keeps an equivalent level of protection.
Not medical advice
Cycle predictions, phase information and skin or wellbeing suggestions are estimates for lifestyle use only. They are not medical advice, diagnosis or contraception, and should not be relied on to prevent or plan pregnancy. Speak to a qualified clinician about any health concern.
Children and changes
SILK is not directed to children under 13. We may update this policy as SILK changes; the date at the top will show the latest version.
